Postpartum and parenting was never meant to be alone. And while our society doesn’t provide a perfect village there are breastfeeding and postpartum groups than can help fill that void.

Here is a collection of new parent and breastfeeding groups in Portland. Most of them are free.

Lactation Support Group at Wise mama collective/alma midwifery

Dr. Emily Spaeth hosts a lactation support group at Wise Mama Collective/Alma Midwifery 1616 SE Ankeny Street in Portland, on Friday mornings from 10am-11am. With a variety of expert guest speaks. Emily herself has an impressive list of credentials including IBCLC, OT, & LMT, The group costs $12. Providence new mom’s groups - at 3 location - Portland, St. Vincents & Newberg

Join other new moms and their babies to share your joys, and favorite new toys. This free in-person weekly group provides a welcoming environment to share experiences as a new mom and learn about breastfeeding, sleep, postpartum emotions, and other important topics. The group is held weekly all year long at the Providence Portland campus in the Providence Child Center. Online registration only necessary once. You may register and join at any time after your baby is born.

These groups are by drop in. There may be a small fee for non providence patients but it wasn’t clear on the website. For immediate postpartum thru 6 months

at Providence Portland Thursdays from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m

at St. Vincents Fridays 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.

at Newberg -Tuesdays 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Complimentary Nurturing Circle with Bridgetown Baby (Virtual)

Bridgetown Baby’s Nurturing Circle for Growing Families is a gathering place for parents and kiddos, from the prenatal period through toddlerhood. Join us via Zoom to connect with other parents and get support from Bridgetown Baby’s postpartum doulas and lactation consultants. Free to attend. Info here

Baby Blues Connection Classes (Virtual)

Baby Blues Connection provides mental health support to pregnant and postpartum people living in Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, Columbia, Tillamook, and Clatsop counties in Oregon; and Clark County, Washington. Baby Blues Connection has two classes: Supporting Birth-Specific Experiences & Supporting Parenting Experiences. They are both free and virtual. Here is more information (from their website)

Multiple Multnomah Library locations have book babies and family story time. Find the schedule here. Always free and a nice way to get out of the house with your baby and meet other parents.
